Highlights:
- Lack of facilities, maintenence and space affecting education within classrooms
- Accountability of staff to students and vice versa
- Lack of staff for carrying out duties and tasks relevant to student and professional qualifications
- Ombudsperson - The only college without one; unacceptable!
ISSUES
ACTIVTY
PUB NIGHT: liquor lisence
SYSTEM / STRUCTURE
- Small Classrooms: not enough facilities inside each classrooms - especially for art, needs to be smaller, more intimate
- Bell curve: more practical ethical – consistency with marking - unethical and does/should not apply to smaller - faculty unawareness of overriding with writing letter - not aware of their position, should be clear by the Board
- LAW: Ombuds person- mediator for the school -conflict resolution person
- Accountability of the staff to students: missing classes, late, staff is making students accountable, infrastructure problems: facilities, broken, don’t work, not built to code, inexcusable not being accountable
- Failure to archive all major thesis project: no organization, bad state, no person facilitating and organizing
- Key documents need revision: specify field of study, Florence, special studies
- More focus on current problems and helping
- General communication to the student body
- No OCAD rent Board
- Course descriptions are very vauge; TOO VAGUE.
- Not enough practical information
- Teacher should show their own pervious work for a better
- Education: equivalency of practical knowledge needs to be reinforced
ACCESS
- Bigger library: investment in bigger space, more staff
- Communication services to the student body’
- Fist year access to information right from the beginning
- No OCAD Rent Board, Residencies, partnering for space for residencies
- Storage space! Lockers! Artwork needs space!
EXPOSURE / SUPPORT
- Disability: not enough support
- Student sharing skills
- Support for international students
- Equal scholarship opportunities
- Not enough preperation for the art world
IDEAS
ACTIVITY
- More student socials: pub night, concerts
- Why isn’t there a faculty / student orientation / meet + greet
- General assembly – faculty and students: for selecting programs, teacher to describe their programs, students to describe their programs
- Monthly meetings: faculty and students for each department
SYSTEM / STRUCTURE
- Concise information for people with disabilities- more outreach
- More qualified staff for positions especially for people with disabilities
- Consolidate all institution information / communication: direct, informative requirements
- For first years: tours for each department when selecting courses / programs
- Clear breakdown of evaluation for project marks
- Hire a website staff (from students and show top projects)
- Combine art and design in first year
ACCESS
- Studio access 24 hrs during summer at least!
- More integration of art and design: students’ facilities
- Sleep, rest, and meditation: COMMON ROOM FOR SPIRITUAL/REST PRACTICE
- Access to other institution: AGO, ROM, UofT, Ryerson
EXPOSURE / SUPPORT
- More focus on AFTER OCAD: grad program, professional level
- Top student show in an exclusive gallery in Toronto (or Zurich) for Thesis
- Take pride in displaying student work
